Just this past week, I was looking through what I read last year in order to nominate for the Hugos and noted that I don't think any Thieves World story had been included in a year's best anthology, not because of the stories' quality, but rather because of their dependence on ther rest of the anthologies. It is good to see that streak broken.

It's not the only story from a shared world anthology to be collected in a year's best, though. If you look back, I'm sure Ellen & Terri reprinted a Liavek story or two, and I seem to recall that Silverberg wrote a shared world story that was reprinted too. Either way, it makes for an interesting selection.
And, since I'm commenting here, I should add that I think you've got a fascinating list here, Kathryn. Some stories I loved, some I didn't, but most always stories that I can understand why they're there. And, I think they make for a really interesting snapshot of the year. Hope the book goes gangbusters.

There is a complex and difficult rights issue involving Thieves' World, but we have obtained proper permission.
